Autonomous and connected mobility

Thanks to its heritage in aeronautics and space, Toulouse has developed recognised expertise in embedded electronics, which is now essential for smart mobility technologies. From underground infrastructure to space systems, the city is home to a network of innovative companies that are designing solutions for the mobility of tomorrow: autonomous, connected and sustainable. All the key players in the connected car industry are present: traditional automotive players, technology leaders, electronic component and chip manufacturers, and software specialists.

Mobility of the future

Toulouse is home to more than 500 innovative companies in the mobility and automotive sector, generating a combined turnover of more than €6 billion. With more than 12,000 direct jobs, Toulouse is home to major industrial players such as Continental Automotive, Ampere, Actia, Schaeffler and NXP, as well as numerous innovative SMEs including Eyelight, EasyMile and Liberty Rider.

Backed by a robust ecosystem in the field of embedded systems and strong cross-sector collaboration between key players in aerospace, automotive, healthcare, Industry 4.0, energy and smart cities, Toulouse has established itself as an iconic location bringing together several key players in SDV. While major laboratories are designing embedded and certifiable AI architectures, leading companies such as NXP, Schaeffler and SII are actively involved in the development of new centralised software architectures for the mobility of tomorrow.

A campus of R&D excellence

autOCampus

The region benefits from a dense R&D ecosystem with more than 15 specialised laboratories, including IRT Saint Exupéry, IRIT, ANITI, and LAAS-CNRS, experts in artificial intelligence, robotics, and embedded systems. Led by IRIT, autOCampus brings together companies and academic laboratories on a technical platform and in an experimentation zone to advance research on autonomous vehicles (AI and big data), vehicle safety and security, infrastructure and connectivity, as well as mobility services.
