Cognitive Design Systems (CDS)

Toulouse, cradle of AI for industry

Founded in 2021, Cognitive Design Systems (CDS) develops industrial design software assisted by artificial intelligence. By choosing Toulouse to create and develop its business, the start-up has found the ideal ecosystem to accelerate its growth and has already attracted major international clients.

AI for industrial design

CDS offers an innovative software solution that uses artificial intelligence to automatically generate industrial designs. Engineers can thus obtain several scenarios optimised according to production constraints, automatically validated by simulation and accompanied by detailed cost analyses.

This approach drastically reduces the product development cycle by up to 80%. There are many fields of application: automotive, aeronautics, medical, electronics, computer graphics and video games.

Why Toulouse?

Toulouse was the obvious choice for several reasons:

  • A diverse industrial ecosystem, with a strong presence in aeronautics, space, defense and automotive.
  • The presence of world-class academic players in AI and data science, including the ANITI institute.
  • The ability to forge R&D partnerships with universities and research centres.

Support from Toulouse Team – Invest

From the very beginning, Toulouse Team – Invest mobilised its resources to facilitate the establishment of the company:

  • Contacts with solicitors, accountants and banks for the creation of the company.
  • Logistical support for the relocation of the founders’ families from Japan and Hong Kong.
  • Access to local incubators and accelerators (Village by CA, District B612).
  • Integration into the ecosystem through regular participation in SIANE and Aerospace Additive Manufacturing Summit trade shows.

A rapid growth trajectory

Since its creation, CDS has continued to reach decisive milestones. In November 2023, the start-up announced its first round of funding at the Formnext trade fair in Frankfurt, enabling it to move into its own premises in Toulouse.

Today, CDS employs 20 people, with a target of 30 by the end of 2024. Already profitable, it has around 30 major clients in the aerospace, medical and space industries, and has just signed a strategic contract with Stratasys, a major player in 3D printing.
